2. November: Sans toit ni loi

It is winter, it is cold. It is a time of the year when one looks for warmth and belonging. But a young free-spirited girl decides to take her life into her own hands and live an independent life on the fringes of civilization. She is alone, travelling from one place to another and interacting with the various characters she comes across. It is a dangerous, unconventional lifestyle, far from the comfort of a community. Everyone admires her, wishing they could have the same freedom. But no one notices the drama behind the windows of an abandoned house, the hash smoke, the shoulders of a Tunisian labourer or the laughter of a drunken old lady. Where there is no direction or destination, there is no hope to be expected. In this untethered life of movement, struggle and meaningless relationships, can total freedom still bring happiness? Varda’s Vagabond tells a story to provoke this very question.
